We hope you had a great holiday season, and are enjoying the great weather. We are excited to share that we had a very successful food-drive over a 2 week period in December. With the help of our great patients, we were able to donate over 700 pounds of food to Harvester’s! See our photo gallery with some of our staff along with about ½ of the food that was donated. Due to the great success, we plan on doing this again in the future! THANK YOU!

Studies have shown that obesity contributes to diabetes, cataracts earlier, macular degeneration and many other eye problems. So, like many other things, moderation is the key! When you stop by our office around Halloween, we usually have candy to pass out, and make sure that we have sugar-free candy for anybody with diabetes or anybody else that wants it.

In September of 1888, George Eastman got his patent for the roll-film camera. This is pertinent because we used to take pictures of the retina, the back of the eye with cameras using film. Just as you probably don’t use film in your cameras any more, we don’t in ours either! We have digital imaging for the inside of eyes and the outside/front of eyes.

Digital imaging of the retina can help us to determine retinal health along with some systemic conditions. We use the P200c by Optos. This is an upgrade from the camera we used to have, and an upgrade from what most other optometrists have. Often times, we are able to image enough of the retina to negate the need for dilation.

Our anterior segment camera, or camera for the front of the eye, can help to follow changes in things like dry eye, pink-eye, cataracts and other conditions. Not only can we take a still photo, we can make a “video” of your eye and show it to you! You can even get a copy to show to your friends….if they are into that kind of thing.

If you have not, please feel free to stop by any time: even if it is just to come in and say hello to staff, have your glasses straightened or see the new place, we welcome you. Of course, we still provide the same great care with the same caring attitude and attention to details that WestGlen Eyecare always has!

We have been in the new office since last Labor day weekend. When you are here, you will see the difference that a few blocks down the street will make! We have the same great technology, but a few more exam rooms to make it easier to take care of people when they want to be taken care of. We have added more times for appointments, in order to prevent the need for a long wait until your appointment.

Of course, we welcome any comments, and especially any ideas on how we can continue to improve and exceed your expectations!
